Indonesian customs is one of the stricter regimes in Southeast Asia. Every commercial import needs a PIB (Pemberitahuan Impor Barang) declaration, correct HS classification, and payment of duty and VAT before goods can leave the port or airport. Get one detail wrong and the cargo sits in a red-lane inspection for days.
Our Indonesian clearance team files and manages this process every day. Under DDP terms, you do not deal with any of it.
What Gets Paid on Import into Indonesia
- Import duty (Bea Masuk): 0–20% for most consumer goods, depending on the HS code; some categories higher.
- Income tax prepayment (PPh 22): typically 2.5–10% of CIF value for importers; higher without a tax number (NPWP).
- VAT (PPN): 11–12% on (CIF + duty).
- Sales tax on luxury goods (PPnBM): only for specific luxury categories.
Under DDP, all of the above is included in our quoted rate and paid by our side before delivery.
Import Permits: API, NIB and Lartas
- NIB (OSS business identification number) — the base registration every importing company needs.
- API-U / API-P — general or producer import identification numbers.
- Lartas — technical permits for restricted goods (electronics telecom certification, SNI standards, food and drug BPOM, etc.).
If you do not hold these, our DDP import channel clears the goods under our own documentation, so your cargo moves without you registering anything in Indonesia. For regular large-volume importers, we can also advise on setting up your own import structure to reduce long-term duty costs.
Quota Allocation for Textiles and Kitchenware
Indonesia restricts a long list of consumer goods with import quotas. Textiles and textile articles — underwear, headscarves, towels, blankets, plain grey fabric, non-woven fabric — and stainless-steel kitchenware are all on that list, and a shipment without quota attached will sit at the port.
We hold quota allocation for these categories. That means:
- No waiting for a fresh import approval (Persetujuan Impor) before your cargo can move
- Consistent clearance outcomes instead of case-by-case improvisation
- LCL general cargo from ¥1,600 per CBM, duty and tax included, arriving at our Indonesian warehouse 15–20 days after container loading
If your product is on the quota list and you have been quoted “cannot clear” elsewhere, send us the product name, material and quantity — there is a good chance we can move it.
Common Causes of Customs Delay (and How We Prevent Them)
- Wrong HS code or undervaluation flags — we classify conservatively and document realistic values; under-declared cargo is the #1 reason for red lane in Indonesia.
- Missing permits for regulated goods — we check your HS codes before shipping, not after landing.
- Consignee data errors on the PIB — our team pre-validates every consignee detail.
- Port congestion at Tanjung Priok — we monitor vessel cut-offs and schedule buffer days honestly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you clear under my own Indonesian company?
Yes. If you have NIB and API, we can file the PIB under your entity — often beneficial for duty rates and tax credit (PPN input). Tell us your documents and we will set it up.
Is my cargo guaranteed to pass customs?
No honest forwarder can promise zero inspection. What we guarantee is correct classification, complete documents, and professional handling if an inspection happens — which keeps delays to days, not weeks.
Do you handle clearance for shipments not shipped by you?
Yes, we can act as your clearance agent at Jakarta and Surabaya for cargo arriving under other forwarders, subject to document review.
